Contest Theme:        
Show your school spirit by uploading a Lip Dub video! Using one of fifteen pre-approved songs, compete for votes against other school’s videos during our voting period. Keep your school “in the game” by encouraging fans, friends, and family to vote for your school’s video at the Lip Dub contest website (link available at contests.TribLIVE.com).

Voting:                       
Voting for the High School Lip Dub Contest will begin on November 15th and continue until December 5th.  The winning video will be determined by total number of votes accumulated during the voting period. 

The High School Lip Dub Contest Grand Prize Winner and Runner-Up will be announced in-paper on December 8th and the school/winning video will be featured on the website, and promoted within our print and digital products.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Lip Dub Video?

It is a video shot in one continuous take with everyone in the video lip-syncing the words to the music. No video editing is allowed in the one continuous take.

Who can enter?

Only public or private high schools located within one of the following Southwestern Pennsylvania counties are eligible to submit: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Indiana, Washington and Westmoreland Counties.

How many videos can a high school enter?

Limit ONE video per high school.

What song can we use?

Trib Total Media has obtained the rights to fifteen (15) songs that the students are able to use for purposes of this contest. You must use one of the songs listed below. You are limited to one song. Mash-ups are not allowed. The high school teacher/administrator, who will be submitting the video, must approve song choice.

Who can be in the video?

ALL STUDENT PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN GRADES 9-12. Non-student adults, including, but not limited to, high school administrators, faculty and/or staff, may appear in the video but may NOT operate any video or editing equipment.

When is the submission period?

Submission period starts Friday, September 13, 2013 at 12:01 am and ends Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:59 pm We strongly recommend you do not wait until the very last minute to submit in case of technical errors that need to be addressed to assist in the uploading process.

Why do I need to Register before my video is ready? 
Registering your intent to submit a video before your video is actually ready is not required.
However, it is encouraged – as it is the only way to receive emails with up-to-date information on Lip Dub, helpful contest info, deadline reminders, and troubleshooting access.

What are the video requirements?

  • ALL STUDENT PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN GRADES 9 THROUGH 12.
  • Limit ONE (1) unedited song (from the pre-approved list above) per video. No mash-ups!
  • Participants must lip-synch the words of the song used on the sound track.
  • Video must be shot in ONE continuous take in the high school and/or on the high school grounds.
  • The ONLY editing technique allowed within the one continuous take is adding the final audio soundtrack to the video.
  • We will allow a brief opening and closing "skit" that must be no longer than :30 seconds each - but they must be included in the "one continuous take" of the entire video.
  • The ONLY video graphic/text allowed may be in the beginning or ending of the video. No other video graphics or effects allowed within the continuous take.
  • Video file size cannot exceed 200 MB. Please note, the video file you send will be compressed in order to run properly on the contest website, so please use the highest resolution setting you can to ensure good viewing quality, even once compressed.
  • Videos must be in one of the following formats:
    • .avi, .dv, .mov, .qt, .mp4, .mpeg, .3gp, .asf, .wmv, .mpg
  • Each High School must submit one (1) digital group PHOTO with their submission, which must be a high resolution JPEG.

Can I edit the video?

The ONLY editing technique allowed within the one continuous take is adding the final audio soundtrack to the video.  (No special effects, filters, etc.)

The ONLY video graphic/text allowed may be in the beginning or ending of the video (opening introduction/closing credits). No other video graphics or effects are allowed within the continuous take.

Can I edit the music?

No. Your high school teacher/administrator, who will be submitting the video, must approve the song used. Please double-check all the rules and guidelines including how big the video file size can be.

How do you submit?

Video, photos and entry form MUST be submitted by an adult, 21 years or older, employed as a faculty or staff member of the submitting high school.

Fill out the online entry form and upload your high school's self-created video and group photo at the Lip Dub contest website (link available at contests.TribLIVE.com. Do not drop-off or mail videos or photos. Only videos and photos submitted to the contest website, that have completed entry forms and meet all submission requirements will be accepted.

Can we drop off or mail our video and photo?

No. Only videos and photos submitted online thru the contest website, have completed entry forms, and meet all submission guidelines, will be accepted.

Does it have to be a music video?

Videos must consist of participants lip-synching the words of the songs used on the sound track. (Show us your creativity and school spirit in your video!)

What happens after we submit a video?

After a video, photo and entry form have been submitted, Trib Total Media, Inc. will contact the high school representative (listed on the entry form) within two (2) business days to confirm entry information. Video and photo submissions will not be posted to the Lip Dub contest website prior to the school representative confirming all information related to the entry submission to the satisfaction of Trib Total Media, Inc.

Once reviewed and confirmed, approved videos and photos will be posted to the Lip Dub contest website (link available at contests.TribLIVE.com) and be available for public viewing on web and mobile devices.

How long should it take before we see our video on the contest website?

Once the entry information is confirmed with the high school staff member, the video will be posted to the contest website within the next 48 hours.

How does the voting work?

All approved videos received by November 8, 2013 at 11:59 pm, will be available for voting on the Lip Dub contest website (link available at contests.TribLIVE.com).  Voting begins Friday, November 15, 2013 at 12:01 am and ends Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:59PM. Visitors to the Lip Dub contest website, will need to become a “Registered User” with Upickem (the contest website) in order to vote.  There is no purchase necessary to become a Registered User. Register Users must be at least 13 years of age.  The winning video will be determined by total number of votes accumulated during the voting period.

How many times can I vote?

Upickem Registered users may vote up to TEN (10) times per day, per registered user. Entries generated by a script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified. (There is no purchase necessary to become a registered user.)

How long does voting last?

Voting begins Friday, November 15, 2013 at 12:01 am and ends Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:59PM.

Can we share our video with others on Facebook, etc?

YES! Each video will have quick-links to help you share to your favorite social networking site. (We definitely encourage it!)

How are the winners chosen?

The winning video will be determined by total number of votes accumulated during the voting period.

What happens if there’s a tie?

In the event of a tie, the winning video will be drawn at random from among the tied videos.

How much can our school win?

One (1) verified grand prize winning high school will receive a check for $5,000 and 100 Lip Dub T-Shirts.

One (1) verified 1st place runner up winning high school will receive a check for $1,000 and 100 Lip Dub T-Shirts.

All prizes awarded to high schools are for the school to use at their own discretion.

When are the winners announced?

Winning videos will be determined by online votes and will be announced in Trib Total Media newspapers on Sunday, December 8, 2013 and on the Lip Dub contest website, (link at www.contests.TribLIVE.com) on December 9, 2013.
